Actor Randeep Hooda removed as UN ambassador for 'dirty' joke on Mayawati - Janta Ka Reporter

A United Nations body has removed Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda after demands for his arrest gained moment for cracking a ‘very dirty’ joke on Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati. The announcement was made by the Secretariat of the Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) on Thursday.

The statement by the CMS said that it had ‘become aware of a video clip of CMS Ambassador Randeep Hooda from around 2012 that was recently posted on social media.’ “The CMS Secretariat finds the comments made in the video to be offensive, and they do not reflect the values of the CMS Secretariat or the United Nations,” it said.

The statement further added that the Bollywood actor was ‘appointed as a CMS Ambassador for Migratory Species in February 2020 due to his support for the conservation of wildlife’ adding that the UN body was ‘unaware of the 2012 video at that time.’

It continued, “While CMS is a treaty of the United Nations, it is separate from both the UN Secretariat and the UN Environment Programme. The only entity for which Mr. Hooda served as a brand Ambassador was CMS. Mr. Hooda no longer serves as a CMS ambassador.”

Randeep has been at the eye of a social media storm after someone shared an old video of his joke on Mayawati surfaced. The video was from a conclave organised by a media house in 2012. In the video, the actor was seen cracking what he said was a ‘very dirty joke’ on Mayawati, who has also been the chief minister of India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh.

Randeep had said in the viral video, “I think I will tell a very dirty joke. It’s a sex position for God’s sake. We are taking too seriously.”

He had added, “There was Miss Mayawati. She was walking along the street with two kids, two boys. There was a man, like our man here (pointing to an audience member). He asked, “Are they twins?” (Mayawati) said, “No, no. He’s four, he’s eight.” He (man) said, “I can’t believe someone has been there twice”.”

Angry netizens had trended #ArrestRandeepHooda demanding police action against the actor.

At least two actors namely Munmun Dutta and Yuvika Chaudhary have had to issue public apologies to avoid criminal action after they made casteist remarks targeting India’s Dalit community.

Randeep has not yet responded to the outrage on social media.
